NDRC leaders Visited CenBRAIN Neurotech for Groundbreaking Interdisciplinary Research

On Tuesday, 4 July 2023, theNational Development and Reform Commission (NDRC)andZhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission, along withHangzhou Development and Reform Commissionand theResearch Center for Industries of the Future (RCIF), paid a visit toCenBRAIN Neurotech, a leading researchCenter of Excellencespecialized in biomedical engineering and brain neuroscience.

Accompanied byYigong Shi, President of Westlake University,Mohamad Sawan, Director of CenBRAIN Neurotech Center of Excellence,andJie Yang, Research Associate Professor of Westlake University,the visiting delegation engaged in a lively discussion and exchanged views on the exciting field of interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biomedical engineering and brain neuroscience.

During the visit, Professor Mohamad Sawan and Dr. Jie Yang provided the esteemed guests with a comprehensive overview of the center’s cutting-edge works in microelectronic chip design and tests. They highlighted the application of brain-computer interface technology, showcasing our center's neuromorphic-based innovative solutions for understanding neurological dysfunctions and treating brain disorders.

To conclude the visit, Professor Mohamad Sawan and Dr. Jie Yang guided the delegation on a tour of CenBRAIN Neurotech's microelectronic laboratory. The visiting leaders were particularly impressed by the Centre's development of the brain-computer interface chips, which holds promising potential for revolutionizing the field. Additionally, they were briefed on the ongoing collaborative research with Professor Yue Zhang's group and Zhejiang Second Hospital, focusing on language recovery.

With their continued efforts, the Center of excellence is poised to make substantial contributions towards the development of integrated solutions for neurological disorders and brain function enhancement, ultimately benefiting countless individuals worldwide.
