Professor Ivan Fesenko has joined Westlake University full-time. Prof. Fesenko formally served as an assistant professor and associate professor at St. Petersburg State University, and as a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Nottingham, UK.
Fesenko's mathematical research, which includes explicit reciprocity formulas, explicit class field theory and advanced class field theory, advanced adelic structures, advanced zeta integrals, expansion of IUT theory and applications, and more, has pioneered the development of many fields of modern number theory.
From 2015 to 2021, he invested a lot of time and energy in studying far Abelian geometry and the IUT theory of Japanese mathematician Shinichi Mochizuki, and co-organized 4 IUT international conferences with him. In July 2022, he collaborated with Japanese mathematician Shinichi Mochizuki and three other young mathematicians to jointly publish a paper on the first proof of the effective ABC inequality and a new proof of Fermat's last theorem.
Prof. Fesenko has now joined Westlake University full-time as a distinguished professor at the Institute of Theoretical Sciences and established an advanced number theory research group. Indeed he has a passion for cultivating researchers, with a Fields Medal winner numbering among one of his former students.
