Title:Reconstruction of compact quantum groups and some related topics
Abstract:The Pontryagin duality for locally compact abelian groups, among its many far-reaching applications, serves as a nice framework for developing abstract harmonic analysis. I will explain how the pursuit of extending this duality to general locally compact groups, combined with some discoveries from mathematical physics in the 1980s, eventually led to the modern theory of locally compact quantum groups. After describing (unitary) representation theory in this context, I will present Woronowicz's version of the Tannaka-Krein duality, which essentially recovers a compact quantum group from its category of unitary representations. Time permitting, I will say a few words about my work on representation theory of certain semi-direct products in this spirit, and perhaps also briefly mention some work in progress.
