主讲人简介/Biography:

Yongming Chen obtained Ph.D. on polymer science from Nankai University, Tianjin, in 1993. From 1994 to 1998, he was Postdoctoral Researcher and later Research Assistant at the Institute of Chemistry, CAS. Then he spent the period 1998−2001 as Postdoctoral Researcher in the University of Düsseldorf and the University of Mainz. Since 2001, Chen was Professor at the Institute of Chemistry CAS. He moved to Sun Yat-sen University in 2013 and now he works in Henan University in 2024. He obtained the “Distinguished Young Scholars” by the National Science Foundation of China (2006) and the “Wang Bo-Ren Polymer Research Award” by the Chinese Chemistry Society (2011). He served for Polymer, an Elsevier journal as an Associate Editor from 2007 to 2018. He also was on the Advisory Board Panel of Macromolecules and ACS Macro Letters. His research interests include materials chemistry and application drug delivery and inflammation inhibition. He has published over 300 research articles and around 30 patents approved.

讲座摘要/Abstract:

The immune system is developed to defend against infection of pathogens, like viruses. However, abnormal activation may also lead to disorder concern. Strategies of attenuating immune system are applied to develop vaccination technology and inflammation inhibition. In this talk, I will present how we apply biomaterials to facilitate efficient and safe intervention of virus infection and autoimmune responses. For the first case, we apply materials and nano-delivery technology to engineer novel nanovaccines focusing on recombinant protein vaccines adjuvanted with agonists of TLRs. Also, I will present our novel ionizable lipids for mRNA delivery targeting organs and cells for cost-effective yet high performance vaccines. For the latter case, we apply synthetic polymers to scavenge those cell-free DNAs, damage associated molecular patterns, that elicit abnormal immune activation in some disorders including autoimmune diseases and tumor metastasis.
